Yes. If the return duct is undersized, blocked, or leaking, the system may not move enough air. Return leaks can also pull hot attic air, dust, humidity, or odors into the system.
Why is my house so dusty?+
Dust can come from poor filtration, filter bypass, leaky return ducts, attic or crawlspace air entering the system, duct leaks, or general home air leakage. Dirty ducts may contribute, but duct cleaning alone may not solve the problem if leaks remain.
Is duct cleaning always the answer for dust?+
No. Duct cleaning may help in some cases, but if the system has return leaks, filter gaps, poor filtration, or air leaks from dirty spaces, dust will come back. The source of the dust must be identified.
