The fan may be set to “on.” That makes the blower run even when the furnace, AC, or heat pump is not actively heating or cooling. Set the fan to “auto” if you only want airflow during heating or cooling cycles.
Does lowering the thermostat make the AC cool faster?+
No. Most residential AC systems run at their normal capacity. Lowering the thermostat more does not make the AC colder or faster. It only makes the system run longer.
Does raising the thermostat make the furnace heat faster?+
Usually no. A furnace runs at its designed output. Raising the thermostat higher does not make it produce heat faster, except some staged systems may bring on higher stages depending on controls.
